What does it even mean to love yourself? In a society where women are told how they should look, feel and be while at the same time glamorizing indulgent treats and processed crap, it is especially difficult to keep up a perfect appearance. How am I supposed to look like Kim K but then not eat and drink all the delectable offerings our society advertises every second? It’s a contradiction in my opinion. And, is looking good what loving yourself is all about? No! It's loads and loads of Bullshit.
Together, let's take a journey on what self-love truly is, how to achieve it AND maintain it. One blog isn’t going to be enough. Be prepared for the long haul here. Subscribe, you may be pleasantly surprised.
Self love- The beginning. To truly begin loving yourself you must know yourself. You must know what you like, what you want and what you need. Even more importantly, you must know what you don’t like, don’t want, and don’t need. You also must know what you value and what is important to you. Making a life priority list will help. If your excuse is, I don't have time, then you may not be prioritizing the right things.
It might be helpful to start prioritizing your very basic needs. (in order in my opinion). Once your basic needs are fulfilled, then you are free to prioritize other wants, desires, and/or needs.
#1 Water- you are supposed to drink 1⁄2 of your body weight in ounces. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, it is recommended that you drink at least 75 ounces of water per day. I like ice cold water with lemon. You can choose any type of water as long as it's water. Dehydration is a super real thing and most of us do not drink enough water.
#2 Sleep- You should get 7-8 hours a day to function properly. Your brain and body need time to rest and restore and more.
# 3 Exercise - Exercise increases endorphins, endorphins make people happy and happy people don't kill their husbands (Legally Blonde). Let’s get those endorphins flowing!
Prioritizing these 3 things is the beginning to the amazing journey of intimacy. As you follow us, you will find that self care is #1. Stay tuned for the next self-love blog that will go beyond your basic needs and get into your true wants and desires.
Love and connection come from within. Let's start treating ourselves with love and taking the time to connect.
